European Commission Publishes Decision to Introduce Standardised Reporting Measures for Online Gambling

Today the European Commission approved an implementing decision on a request to establish a European standard on reporting in support of supervision of online gambling services by national gambling authorities. The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA), representing Europe’s leading online gaming and betting operators, views this development positively and congratulates the Commission for delivering this important standardisation request.

A reporting standard will be a good first step towards counteracting the fragmentation that exists in Europe’s internal market for online gambling – which undermines the goal of protecting European consumers and creates unnecessary financial and administrative burdens for both national regulatory authorities and operators. We hope the new reporting standard, once implemented, will promote good governance for national regulators, reduce the risks of regulatory divergence for operators and ease administrative costs for national regulators and operators alike.
