EGBA Speaks at AML Event at European Parliament

The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) addressed a key anti-money laundering (AML) event at the European Parliament in Brussels on Thursday, 15 May, focusing on “Beyond Compliance: AML Implementation Across Non-Financial Businesses and Professions“.

Dr. Ekaterina Hartmann, EGBA’s Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, spoke alongside experts from the European Commission and Europol, sharing valuable insights on how the online gambling sector conducts AML compliance and how to enhance collaboration and information sharing across sectors in Europe’s fight against financial crime.

EGBA continues its work to raise industry standards through its comprehensive pan-European AML guidelines specifically designed for Europe’s online gambling operators. These guidelines are available for application by non-members, demonstrating our commitment to raising standards across the entire sector.

The event brought together key stakeholders from across the AML landscape to discuss practical implementation of the EU’s new AML framework. With the Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) having begun operations and the approaching implementation timeline of the new EU AML Regulation (AMLR), collaboration between regulators, industry, and civil society has never been more important.

EGBA thanks Anti-Money Laundering Europe for organising the event, MEP Rasmus Andresen for hosting, and Ms. Eva-Maria Poptcheva, the European Parliament’s co-rapporteur for AMLA, for her expert moderation.

The event featured experts from leading organisations including Germany’s Ministry of Finance, FIU Belgium, European Center for Not-for-Profit Law, International Anti Crime Academy, STEP, and Accountancy Europe.
