EGBA Third European Regulators Meeting: ‘Privacy & Online Gambling: How Far Should We Go To Protect Consumers?’

The EGBA Third European Regulators meeting, this year entitled ‘Privacy & Online Gambling: How far should we go to protect consumers?’, took place on 13 September 2017, in Brussels. For the first time, we came together as industry and as regulators to discuss the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), a topic that is highly relevant for many online industries, including the online gambling sector.

What are the effects of privacy on online gambling?

How to strike a balance between privacy and public policy objectives?

After the keynote speeches, regulators and EGBA members had the chance to discuss in an interactive manner during 3 roundtables, focused on Fraud, Advertising and Consumer Protection. Overall, the workshop was an interesting debate about the balance between data processing and players’ privacy at EU level under the GDPR. Participants had the opportunity to get an overview of the applicable rules and their implementation in practice.

EGBA was pleased to have, during the workshop, the participation of the European Commission, gambling authorities, EGBA members and data protection experts.
