BOS, the association of EU licensed online gambling companies operating in Sweden, announced today it has joined the EGBA, Europe’s leading Brussels based online gambling body.
Commenting on the agreement, Gustaf Hoffstedt, Secretary General of BOS said: “It is with great joy that BOS has been approved as an affiliate member of EGBA. For many years, we have been following the important work of the EGBA in Brussels. If we are to achieve full effect in the EU-related work we have to muster our forces, and this is where EGBA comes into play. Just like BOS unites many actors in Sweden, EGBA unites many under the EU-canopy.
The decision comes at a time when Sweden is discussing the future of its gambling market. The Swedish gambling legislation has come under great scrutiny following the Commission’s decision last year to refer Sweden to the Court of the Justice of the European Union (CJEU) for lack of compliance with EU law.
Gustaf Hoffstedt, Secretary General of BOS added: “With our affiliated membership, we want to pull our weight, to the benefit of the bigger picture but also the national gambling market in our own Swedish jurisdiction.”
Maarten Haijer, Secretary General of EGBA, concluded: “We are very pleased that BOS has joined EGBA. Together we are stronger in the Brussels and the Swedish discussions on the future of online gambling. After previously welcoming the Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association (GBGA), the EGBA is pleased to be joint by our second affiliate member association. It shows the importance of working together to ensure that Europe moves towards an attractive regulated market with high consumer protection standards.”
