Consumer Choice

Online gaming and betting is a mainstream leisure activity that is regularly enjoyed by millions of customers across the European Union.

The EGBA believes that consumers should have access to a greater choice of regulated European operators and access to the highest possible standards in protection and care, which is more likely to be achieved through regulated competition than in a monopoly environment.

Opening up markets to competition gives consumers the benefits of lower prices and a wider choice of products and suppliers. Gaming and gambling markets in the EU should be open to competition. However the market for online betting and gaming is still subject to unjustifiable restrictions when it comes to competition, offering of services and establishment of new operators.

Online gaming and betting are in the technology and ecommerce sectors as well as part of the gambling industry. Consumers are best served where such services are allowed to develop in a competitive market and where there is an incentive to be part of a regulated environment.
